About
Alicia María Vallejo
Alicia María Vallejo, a professional anthropologist, has found, in both art and painting, a form of communion with the environment. Her paintings depict spiritual renewal, using clean, vivid lines and vibrant, cheerful colors. Her contemporary touches have been influenced by Neo Cubism and Pop Art. These paintings permeate the artist’s optimistic vision and celebrate the simple and beautiful things in life.
AQUA, one of Alicia María's signature pieces, has been chosen multiple times to represent her homeland in prestigious museums and galleries across Colombia and the United States, including exhibitions in New York in 2013 and the Miami Beach Sister Cities event in 2012. Her work has been shown at numerous international exhibitions, including those in Monaco, Belgium, France, China, Colombia, Perú, and the United States. The pinnacle of her career came with a significant exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris in 2014.
Her altruism has inspired her to use her art to help those in need. Alicia María has hosted and promoted fundraising events such as, “Un Solo Corazón Pintando por Ecuador'' after the earthquake in 2016. Additionally, she has collaborated with organizations such as the Salvadoran American Humanitarian Foundation in 2015 and various other non-profits.
In 2017, Alicia Maria was honored as “Hispanic Artist” on the course of Hispanic Heritage month by The City of North Miami. Her journey into public art commenced in 2018 when she won a prestigious "call for artist" by the City of Coral Gables. She adorned an eight-foot-tall replica of Venetian mooring posts (paline) with a stunning "Natsukashi Tree" for the "Venice in the Gables" temporary exhibit.
Later in 2018, Alicia María expanded her artistic repertoire, becoming a muralist known for her splendid and vibrant murals in North Miami Beach City. "Forest of Joy," a captivating triptych, illuminates the new Public Park dedicated to honoring the life of Hazel Fazzino. Her second and third murals, “The Forest of Dreams” and “Butterfly” graces the main entrance of the North Miami Beach Library.
Alicia María’s true passion lies in sharing her art and knowledge through teaching. She teaches young children and the elderly at various organizations, schools, libraries, and cities, providing access to art education that helps shape better human beings.
In 2020, Alicia embarked on a “knitting and painting community” initiative with her students from The North Miami Beach Library's after school program. Sponsored by The Children's Trust, they transformed the Senator Gwen Margolis Amphitheater at NMB Library into a vibrant canvas of creativity.
Recognizing her unwavering dedication to art education and the well-being of NMB's youth and seniors, Alicia Maria was honored as "NMB Sheroe" on International Women’s Day in 2021.
In November 2022, under Alicia María's artistic and anthropological direction, the biggest art installation of Tawala Wayuu Fest took place. More than thirty trees of Parque 93 in Bogotá, Colombia were covered with the Wayuu indigenous fabrics and ancestral patterns creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Alicia María, with her event company "What a Blast," seamlessly combines her artistic expertise with event design, organization, planning, and execution. She specializes in crafting artistic and social events, including children's parties and themed gatherings, for residential condominiums and the vibrant community of North Miami Beach.
Alicia María Vallejo's multifaceted journey as an artist, anthropologist, and community advocate continues to inspire and enrich lives through her unwavering commitment to art, education, and the celebration of life's beauty.
